You should read the Newsletter and then indulge yourself in the chairlift’s interesting history.

I used it a couple of times in 1964 and discovered that this was not an experience for the faint-hearted.

A design feature that was an overwhelming success was that the hinged canopy of the fibreglass cupola that lowered down in front of you to offer protection from the wind cunningly redirected it through the bottom opening (through which your legs projected) and straight up your parka, which you could not effectively exclude even if it had a belt.  The 35minutes referred to in the Newsletter seemed like an hour and 35 minutes with the frequent stopping and wind-chill!

When you read the article linked here http://wikiski.com/wiki/index.php/Thredbo_to_Charlotte_Pass_Chairlift (also top right of home page) and get to the end of the first section (larger type) you must scroll down and read the detail provided in smaller type that follows.

A cross-country excursion from Yaraandoo heading west up Rock Creek behind Mt Wheatley and then above Betts Creek and Johnnies Plain then up Trapyard Creek on to Ramshead Range to the ruins of the Ramshead Restaurant is worthwhile on a good day (getting caught on Ramshead by bad weather is not recommended) – enjoy it!
